At least eleven 15-year-old children were discovered to be working last year in three factories which supply Apple products.
Apple has been using factories where conditiones are poor.About a week ago 62 workers working at the factory were poisoned by n-hexane, a toxic chemical that can cause muscular degeneration and blur eyesigh.
Also Apple found 24 factories where workers had not even been paid China’s minimum wage of around 800 yuan (Pounds76) a month.
A spokesman for Wintek(who run this factory) said that “almost all” of the affected workers were back at work.
Apple said “In each of the three facilities, we required a review of all employment records for the year as well as a complete analysis of the hiring process to clarify how underage people had been able to gain employment,”
Apple also have a factories in United states,Thailand, Philippines,Malaysia,singapore,Taiwan and the Czech Republic .
Apple admitted that at least 55 of the 102 factories that produce its goods were ignoring Apple’s rule that staff cannot work more than 60 hours a week.
Apple said “When we investigated, we uncovered records and conducted worker interviews that revealed excessive working hours and seven days of continuous work”.
“Apple is committed to ensuring the highest standards of social responsibility throughout our supply base. The companies we do business with must provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, and use environmentally responsible manufacturing processes wherever Apple products are made,” the company said in a statement.“Apple continues to drive improvements that make a difference. Our biggest impact comes when we empower workers, proactively address underlying issues, and hold suppliers accountable for their practices.”
